With the belief that “Humanity is the true caste and compassion is the true religion,” MLA Dr. Vishwajeet Kadam has carried forward the legacy of his father, the late Dr. Patangrao Kadam, dedicating himself to public service. He has built an image in the public mind as a leader who selflessly rushes to help people during crises, without concern for his own life. Whether it is drought, heavy rains, or devastating floods, Dr. Vishwajeet Kadam and his family have always stood by the affected, offering assistance inspired by the ideals of the late Dr. Patangrao Kadam. During natural calamities, he has been a strong support for the citizens, showcasing his sensitive, compassionate, and determined leadership, particularly during the challenging times of floods and the COVID-19 pandemic. He is known for always being with the people, whether in moments of joy or sorrow, constantly working to solve their problems with a deep sense of responsibility. Through his work, he has set an example of how an ideal people’s representative should be, adhering to the principle of “walk the talk.”
In 2005, 2019, and 2021, the people of Sangli, Kolhapur, and Satara districts faced the bitter experience of catastrophic floods. In August 2019, the devastating flood of the Krishna and Warna rivers severely impacted Sangli district, including the Palus and Kadegaon talukas. Within moments, villages were submerged, lives were lost, and thousands were left homeless. Agriculture and farmers suffered greatly due to nature’s fury. During this period, Dr. Vishwajeet Kadam emerged as a savior for the people, risking his own life to rescue thousands trapped in the floodwaters with the help of his team of workers. He relocated the homeless to Bharati Vidyapeeth schools, arranging food, clothing, and medical care for them. He also made provisions for shelters and fodder for animals. After the floodwaters receded, he initiated cleanliness drives to prevent disease outbreaks, facilitated vaccinations, and provided medical treatment through expert doctors from Bharati Hospital. He made special efforts to ensure maximum relief from the government for the flood victims, standing firmly by them during the crisis.
In 2021, when floods once again struck the Palus and Kadegaon talukas, despite having an injured leg, Dr. Vishwajeet Kadam personally waded into waist-deep waters to rescue stranded citizens. Upon hearing calls for help, he immediately rushed to assist, coordinating with the administration to carry out rescue operations on a war footing and saving many lives. He arranged for shelter and food for the affected, along with fodder for livestock. Through the “Dr. Patangrao Kadam Disaster Relief Fund” of Bharati Vidyapeeth, he provided essential supplies and assistance to flood victims, restoring their hope and resilience.
In 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc across India and the world, Dr. Vishwajeet Kadam played the role of a “Corona Warrior,” saving the lives of thousands. Unmindful of his own safety, he worked tirelessly for the people, providing free treatment, medicines, and meals to COVID-19 patients, even arranging expensive “Remdesivir” injections at his own expense to save lives. During the lockdown, he distributed free meals, food grains, groceries, clothing, and other essential supplies to those confined to their homes. Responding to Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi’s appeal, he arranged travel and food for migrant workers stranded in Maharashtra to help them return to their home states. Additionally, he ensured farmers had access to fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, and markets for their produce during this time.
Dr. Vishwajeet Kadam’s compassionate and dedicated approach during times of crisis has earned him admiration and affection from all. His service-oriented mindset makes him a leader the people look up to and cherish.
